I received PCS orders 20 Jan 2010 with a report date or 12 April 2010.  I have had my house on the market for approximately 2 years and have yet to even get an offer.  I requested a 60 day deferrment of my report date due to an 82 day notice to PCS and that was shot down by BDE commander.  I have now submitted a congressional inquiry to try and get a little more time to get rid of the house and no word yet.  I retire in 2 years from July 2010.  I don't have a problem moving for the last 2 years, but going into forclosure after 26 years in uniform really makes you wonder was it all worth it?  How can we put soldiers in this situation to suit the Army's needs?  I have the HAP application, but the gentleman I spoke with in the Savannah regional office stated that basically you need to get a buyer on the table and then we will step in.......that is so reassuring.  No wonder the welfare rate is so high in this country, it doesn't pay to work or serve.

Certainly understand your frustration and you can see that there is a large number of Military Families that share your problem.  I don't get it either.

You didn't indicate where you were located and that might help add insight to the issue.  Also, I am guessing that you have explored the rental avenue, but if not, here are three excellent web sites that might help.

www.militarybyowner.com     www.moresam.net

www.ahrs.com

All focus on the military rental market.  Also, please review other articles we have made on this forum regarding the landmines of foreclosure and short sales.  If faced with a decision, you should understand that neither necessarily guarantee that you can walk on the property.  In some cases, both foreclosure and short sale may leave the door open for a lender to come back up to six years (state dependent) to collect / garnish / legal action.   Certain you didn't want that bad news, but we want to make you aware of those possibilities.  If you consider either, please consult an attorney.

Finally, I firmly believe we need to keep this issue alive / in front of Congress.  It is a major blow to those who serve, and frankly, I believe is going to have a long term impact to readiness.   See the home page of this web site, upper left, for pre-written letter / addresses.
