Posted By VRSAM on 07-09-2009 12:04 AM Hi, this is Joe Gladden, Managing Partner, VR SAM (Veteran Realty Serving America's Military, Ind. ) Thanks for your thoughts on this very frustrating issue for military families. We spent 25 years in the Navy and was burned on this several times. Our group is working hard to build grass roots support to change this inequity. I thought you might want to read the executive summary (below) that we have sent to a number of non profits / Congressional staff / etc. We have developed a very comprehensive proposal that I am happy to share (little too long for a forum) on request. I would like to encourage you to get your friends to document there concerns as well. thanks! It will take awhile but we believe we can make a difference! Thank you all for the sacrifices to serve and support those who serve! Joe Gladden EXECUTIVE SUMMARY VR SAM® PROPOSES A “SAFETY NET” FOR MILITARY HOME OWNERS Military Families do not have a safety net similar to other government agencies (CIA / FBI / NCIS, etc. ) and large corporations. They alone bear the expense of settlement costs, risk of down markets and catastrophic financial loss when purchasing. This prevents thousands of military families from purchasing homes every year! Military Families SHOULD have benefits similar to other government agencies. o “It is the Right Thing to Do” and thus will receive wide spread support. It will undoubtedly receive overwhelming grassroots support from Military Families. o A “Safety Net” program may be “cost neutral” or even result in a savings to DOD (see full proposal in attached article) o The political climate is right! It is likely to receive strong support from federal, state, and local politicians. o It is “Win for Military Families, Win for the Federal, State, and Local Governments, Win for a number of trade organizations (ie. National Association of Realtors / Builders / Mortgage Brokers, Insurance Companies, etc.) o It is likely to have very strong support among military friendly non-profit organizations such as American Legion, MOAA, NMAA, etc. o It is likely to have very strong support among large profit organizations such as insurance companies / lenders (USAA, GEICO, Navy Federal Credit Union, etc.) o Is most likely to receive very strong media support from military friendly media (Military Times, Military.Com, Stars and Stripes, etc.) VR SAM® firmly believes that this proposal is a concept that is well overdue! We are totally committed to generating the grassroots support among Military Families and making this a national issue. We sincerely appreciate The American Legion’s review of the attached proposal. |
