I found a interesting site that had tons of information and current updates on BRAC news. If anyone is so inclined to check out the site here it is: https://www.officialbrac.com/index.asp I just read that they now have 7 different potential sites to look at regarding the accomadation of 6,200 personnel from Washington Headquarters Service .One of the most significant contenders into the race to capture the WHS personnel was made public on November 5. That was the unveiling of a 115-acre site in Manassas Park known as Bloom Grove Station. I wonder what kind of impact that will make for Manassas-(traffic wise?) It can't be good! Of course ,I'm sure there are postitives to having that site for the community as a whole. Anyone have anything to add?

Thanks Laura for the BRAC website. It was very informative.
I'm not looking forward to the changes that will come when the BRAC recommendations occur in the Northern VA area. The proposal to shift thousands of positions from Metro-accessible sites will generate increased traffic along the I-95/route 1 corridor in Fairfax County around Fort Belvoir, and in Prince William and Stafford County around the Quantico base. More congestion will be between Fort Belvoir and the Pentagon, affecting Alexandria and Arlington. It will be a nightmare for everyone! sad
I also found that the impact of the BRAC recommendations on the housing market is expected to be negligible. Since most job shifts will occur over short distances, few employees are likely to change their residences. Data indicates that 76% of Defense Department personnel employed in Northern Virginia live in Virginia. The remaining 24% live in D.C., Maryland and West Virginia.

The relocation of 20,000 defense workers to the I-95 corridor is fast approaching. A year from now we will all feel the effects of the job shifts....increased commuter time for all!!! Two new choke points will be along I-95 near Fort Belvoir and near Seminary Road in Alexandria. Road work improvement needs to come fast in order to handle the increased commuter load! I read somewhere that the defense dept. might give more money than allowed by Federal law to help pay for road work and the army has donated some land to make improvements to ease commutes to and from Fort Belvoir. Has anyone heard anything on this?
