Hello,

This new date appears to be an extension of the original cutoff which, I THINK, was around Dec. 2009. Meaning, they probably have enough money to last until Sept. 2010 and yet could perhaps even extend THAT date. I know on the original paperwork we filled out, it was a date in 2009 OR when HAP funds run out, so I'm thinking it may still be that way.

The biggest problem with this date is that when you apply with a PCS of Oct. 2010 and they have the new cutoff Sept. 2010, they may deny your application. Is there any way you could PCS earlier or get a revised report no later than date? Maybe if you explained your situation to the commander? Not sure how that works, but wouldn't hurt to try, especially if you fall in the required elligibility for HAP assistance otherwise.

Best of luck!

So does that mean...... if we don't sell our house by Sept. 2010 then you can't get approved for the HAP?

I think that date is simply when you have to have orders to PCS, right? So, even though there were no official funds or "rules" to process applications, I think the corp of engineers had to just give a cut off at when they thought the estimated recovery act funds would run out. I'm hoping they based it at that time (and now) on how many people were up to PCS living in an area that lost 10% home value, etc. Although, who the heck knows HOW they came up with the stuff they came up with for this.

I realize this doesn't answer your question/s, but thought you would find it interesting / helpful.  The link below has a summary of the HAP benefits to date, by category and service.  Also, Denise Korpinen, a Realtor in San Diego, and moderator of this forum is traveling to Sacremento to meet with the HAP folks on March 9-11th.  I encourage you to write specific, concise questions on this forum and will try to get them to her for a post when she returns.   Joe Gladden

Thanks for sharing that link, Joe! That was very interesting. I thought the results would be different, actually, with a lot more PCS's than the chart shows as well as a lot more in the Western (Sacramento) district. Its interesting they've paid out so much (90%+) to applicants. Very cool.
