Injured Soldier
« Thread started on: Mar 11th, 2009, 12:49am » Quote
My husband was pulled on active duty from his civilian job as a city firefigther with a good income. His income was dropped and we are living on his military salary which is about 60% less than his civilian job. We are trying very hard to stay above water. To make things worst he was injuried and is now in the worrier transition program. Due to the big drop in our income I stopped making my mortgage payment. We are about $48,000.00 behind in our mortgage. I have sent our mortgage company (Saxon) our modification package back in November, 2008. They have not gotten back to us despite the numerious calls I have made. They keep telling me my papers are with a counselor. My husband injury has led him to stay in the COAR program for his last 5 months to get his 20 year retirement letter. He is no longer fit to stay in the Army. We are afraid of losing our home because of the loss in income. A loss that is the result of him being called to active duty. Make us wonder why serve in the military, fighting wars for your country and in return we get little help. We are not sure if he will be able to return to his civilian employment due to his injury. More than likely he will have to retire from the fire dept. due to the injury he substained while training for the war in Iraq. Is there any help for those who serve and sacrifice alot for their country.

Terri, I don't have enough information to fully understand your circumstances. However, you may have some rights under the Serviceman's Civil Relief Act, SCRA. Here is a link to a group that may assist with pro bona legal services.
http://www.debtprotectionlaw.com/

Also, you may want to review this link (and others) on this site that has all the info we have on all available loan modification programs, etc. It is changing daily...so fast that it is hard for us to keep up on.

Be certain that we appreciate your family's sacrifice in the service of our country and will try to keep the info posted. I strongly encourage you to write your Congressmen / Senators. You can get sample letters with addresses at www.moresam.net.
