Our house is not in foreclosure BUT.... we have a house in Jacksonville, FL that was on the market for about 8 months with no offers, as the house sat empty we were living at our duty station in Maine. In July me and the 3 kids moved back to Florida from Maine at our own expense! We feel like we have no choice but to live here in the house while my husband serves in Maine. It really stinks for me and my husband and the kids to have to live so far apart. We get no extra pay, no family separation, the lower of the bah and the expense of airline tickets to fly back and forth to visit each other once in a while. We are in debt over our head and don't know what to do to bring our family together again. It really sucks because NAS Jax is 5 miles away and is a huge base, but my husband is stuck in Brunswick, Maine. What is congress doing to help military families either sell their houses or get orders to the places where we own our homes? Especially in places where the housing market is so bad...aka Florida! Please help us! |

Becky, We sincerely appreciate your documenting your circumstances and regret all you are going through. We believe our Military Families deserve much better. Please note our most recent article on this forum under the "Help for Miltiary Homeowners / Financial Crisis Update." I believe this will be a starting point. Also know that the procedures for implementing the $700B bailout are still being ironed out and please keep checking for updates. If you have questions, call us at: 703 754-3036. Joe |

I understand what you are going through. We own a house in Ohio and had to PCS to Hurlburt AFB in Florida in September. Now we are paying our mortgage and rent and are getting further behind each month. Our credit cards are maxed now and I don't see an alternative to foreclosure. |

I am facing such a seperation. My husband's command will have a home port change after his current deployment. Well, it is more like during his second deployment. When he gets off that ship the second time around they should be calling Virginia home. We are currently at NAS Jax. Not everyone in the squadron is facing this move, but many are involved. When the notice was first put out he would only have a year left on his orders. Now the date was moved up and he has to go. He doesn't want to move us if he will only be there for a year. He thinks he can get orders back this way so we can keep out house. After going through two some what back to back deployments the last thing this family needs is another year and a half or so apart cause we are safter not trying to sell and relocate. We won't be up for family sep pay either since he would vol to leave us behind. There are some families that must extend their orders just to move their families with them. This entire home port change is to cut down on the costs their have for flying them and such for training or what not. Instead they are going to pay out TONS to move these families, many of which intend to move back with new orders. I know, it all makes sense in some book somewhere. We purchased our house in Dec of 06. So we fall short on help by a couple of months. I wish the best of luck to you and hopefully we all get some help soon! |

This is classic of our analysis that the stimulus plan's "assistance" for Military Families falls way short of assistance. We believe a large number of families will be left out due to missing the window by a few days, or another loophole. I strongly encourage you to write, and then call, you Congressmen / Senators. Ask your friends and family to do the same! Be specific about your circumstances. Here's the web site for pre-written letters (with addresses). www.moresam.net Please stay in touch. We will update this site with info as soon as we have it. Joe Gladden, VR SAM |

Becky, Is a hardship transfer an option for your husband?
