We are making progress. Within days, we expect to see very favorable articles on the plight of military homeowners by major networks, military.com, and the Virginia Pilot (Norfolk area). I want to thank those who agreed to tell their story to the media. I believe it will be very powerful to have real live people to give life to the issue. We did hit a small road bump today as well. A very powerful military non-profit basically let us know that they did not believe it was important enough to give it a priority on their political agenda. I won't mention the organization as they do in fact support a number of great military programs, but will say that I found it dumbfounding (if not dumb!) that a large and growing number of Military Families facing foreclosure wasn't a signficant quality of life issue, as well as a major issue facing DOD! Am I missing the big picture? They touted their support of education benefits, healthcare, etc, all of which are unquestionably important and noble efforts. The best I recollect from Maslow's hierarchy of needs was the shelter was right below food, and well above education, in the big picture! Here's the message. The ONLY way this will get resolved is if you, and thousands of others, contact your Congressmen, the press, and organizations like the VFW, American Legion, ArI disagreeociations, MOAA, Enlisted and Officer associations and tell them this must be fixed! Hang in there. Joe |
