It may be a long time before we see the NOVA / DC area on a consistent growth path, but again our regions outpaced the national real estate market.
Inman News reports that the LPS (Lending Processing Service) Home Price Index shows national home prices still flat or declining. However, the Washington DC region index, to include parts of Northern Virginia, remained 1 of 2 major metro areas where the index showed continued improvement. In our region, single family homes, excluding distressed sales, showed a 2.9% price gain. When distressed sales were included in the averages, the index showed a 1.3% price increase. Only the New York- White Plains area also saw a gain.
The same study indicated that there would likely be no rise in the indexes nationally until 2014.
